Improving surgery outcomes on a global scale

We're building a network to improve care in the critical hours and days after surgery — for patients everywhere. Backed by growing evidence and a global community of clinicians, administrators and institutions working toward better recovery.

What is the EPOC Network?

The Enhanced Postoperative Care (EPOC) Network is a global collaboration to reduce post-surgery complications and enhance patient recovery after surgery. Our work spans three focus areas: education and learning, research and innovation, and value and economics.

Redefining postoperative care through collaboration

The Network brings hospitals and individuals together to deepen our understanding of ways to improve early postoperative care. It provides an opportunity to examine and expand the evidence on structures and processes in EPOC-type units that matter most to patients and hospital outcomes.

Shared Outcomes Registry

The introduction and continuation of EPOC units depend on data. Our new Shared Outcomes Registry is an important step forward in collecting the evidence we need.

The case for better postoperative care

Complications after surgery are common, costly, and often preventable. EPOC units provide the specialised monitoring and early intervention that reduces them — improving patient outcomes and making better use of hospital resources.
